auto.art is an intuitive, meditative method of making.
it begins with random//abstract shapes and colors :: droplets of ink or folded shapes in the paper, light and shadow; these provide a starting place.
like finding shapes in the clouds when looking skyward, auto.art involves looking at what is presented and teasing out what it is and wants to be. varying elements are added as the piece and imagery evolve.
when one becomes frustrated or loses sight of the current shape or direction, pause to reconsider what is on the page. what elements does the new shape present? what does it look like now? what could it evolve into next?
auto.art typically begins on a sheet of 18×24 in watercolor paper. the piece builds on itself over a long period of time. a piece is finished when it ‘feels’ finished or when the page becomes too full for further development.
