FAULT LINES

FAULT LINES

summer 2013 – spring 2014

Greta A Bach, an interdisciplinary artist, is publicly exploring her relationship with an abusive past to spark thought, conversation, and reflection on dysfunction in the 21st century family. A visceral reminder of the past; Bach bids her audience to remember ‘the past influences the present, but does not dictate the future.’

FAULT LINES is a performative installation of family and power dynamics gone horribly awry.  By connecting viewers and participants through layers of shared experience and viscerally recalling the past, together we recognize that in this present moment, we are the ones in control.  Our past does not dictate our future, though it can inform it.

Through autobiographical text, performance, and handmade book arts objects I trigger viewers’ memories of their own similar experiences or expose them to a new type of family dynamic than what they have felt in their own lives.  Whether encountering the work performatively, or mining the detritus of the installation, I invite viewers and participants to travel through time with me forging connections and finding our own power.
